Exchange Online Monitor v2

MessageOps Exchange Online Monitor v2 allows you to monitor the health of the Microsoft Exchange online environment and interact with other users of the service in real time.  It performs a variety of tests to help identify and isolate problems you may be experiencing and also allows you to interact in real time with other other users of the service to further help you determine if there is indeed a problem with the service.

The original version of Exmon ran as a standalone windows application.  The new version of Exmon runs as a client-server application. 

The Exmon Server runs as a service on a server and is responsible for running the tests, tracking results, generating alerts, etc.

The Exmon Client software is used to interact with the Monitoring Service.  It provides visual notifications of the current status, allows users to interact with other Exmon users, run reports on historical performance, and much more. After installing Exmon v2, it automatically connects to the MessageOps monitoring server and gives you up to the minute status of the service.

Along with the architectural changes, there are 2 versions of Exmon, Shared and Dedicated. 

Exmon Shared– In the shared edition the testing engine runs on a hosted MessageOps server.  The Exmon Server runs synthetic transaction tests against the Microsoft Online environment and checks the availability of generic mailboxes within Microsoft Online.  All of the thresholds and settings are configured by MessageOps and cannot be changed.

The Exmon Client software connects to the hosted server and provides administrator with the current and historical status of the services. In Exmon Shared, all clients connect to the same server (per region) to view the current status.

Exmon Dedicated – In the dedicated edition, organizations are able to run their own instance of the Monitoring service.  This allows them to configure their own threshold and settings, as well as monitor their actual mailboxes and network connectivity.  The client software would then be configured to connect to their dedicated monitoring server allowing larger organizations to better report on their current status of their users.

Currently Exmon Shared Client is available as a free download to customers in the North America (NOAM) datacenter.

Exmon Dedicated Download

Exmon Dedicated allows you to run the Exmon Server Service on a server in your environment.  While the setup is more complex than Exmon Shared, it does allow you to monitor your actual mailboxes and configure your own thresholds and alert settings.  This is also the only option currently available for customers in EMEA and APAC.
