Migrating mailboxes with messages over the 25mb limit to Office 365 can cause several issues for administrators. There is a message size limit of 25mb in the cloud and emails that exceed that can cause several problems. In some cases, such as in Rich Coexistence, it will cause the Migration to fail. Other times, the messages are skipped and the end user doesn’t know. Simply having large messages in your Exchange database is also a direct cause of several performance related issues such as extended search times and the dreaded RPC dialogue pop-up on Outlook Clients.
Previously, administrators would have to run PFDavAdmin or Exfolders to search for these messages and either remove them manually, or have the end user do so. This can be an incredibly time consuming process and often needs to be repeated several times.
Our solution to the large message problem is the MessageOps Exporter. This tool will log into any version of Exchange, query for large messages and export them to a local PST. It will also generate a report of all the large messages on that server.
When run in Export mode, you have the option whether to delete the messages permanently or leave them. You can also select how the PST file will be formatted.
Here are the results from Report Mode. The Export Count Field indicates the number or messages over 25mb that were found for each mailbox.
In Export Mode a PST file is created for each mailbox
MessageOps Large Message Exporter is free for everyone to download and use. We need your help though to continue to develop free solutions for the Office 365 Community. If you find the solution useful, we would appreciate it if you set MessageOps as your partner. It only takes a minute and doesn’t cost you anything.
